The everyday matcha set — bowl, whisk, holder, scoop and sifter, ready to gift.

TL;DR

  • Bowl, whisk, holder, scoop and sifter — everything you need except the powder.
  • $45 — the most affordable complete matcha set in our range, gift box included.
  • For someone who already has matcha powder and just needs the tools.

If you've been making matcha with a regular whisk in a coffee mug — and you've decided it's time to do it properly — this is the set. It now includes a fine-mesh sifter — the one tool that turns lumpy matcha into a smooth bowl.

What's in the Set

  • 1 × Ceramic matcha bowl (chawan) — wide-mouth design
  • 1 × Bamboo matcha whisk (chasen) — Madake bamboo, ~100 prongs, in a clear storage tube
  • 1 × Ceramic whisk holder — keeps the prongs in shape between uses
  • 1 × Bamboo scoop (chashaku) — measures the 1.5 g serving
  • 1 × Fine-mesh sifter — stainless mesh, beech wood handle, 4.1 in mesh / 7.3 in overall
  • Gift box, step-by-step usage booklet and our “how to make better matcha” guide

Frequently Asked Questions

Does this come with matcha powder?
No — this set is the tools only. If you'd like a kit that includes matcha powder, see our Complete Matcha Gift Set.

What's the difference between this and the Matcha Whisk Set ($55)?
Both sets now include the bowl, whisk, holder, scoop and a sifter. The $55 Matcha Whisk Set adds a tea mat and uses a hand-pinched chawan; this $45 set comes with a gift box and a storage tube for the whisk. Both whisks are equivalent.

The story behind the product

Strabella Matcha Tea Set

Chawan, whisk, scoop, holder, and sifter — everything for the ceremony, nothing that doesn't belong

The five tools of the Strabella matcha tea set, numbered: chawan bowl, chasen bamboo whisk, chashaku scoop, whisk holder, and fine-mesh sifter

Considered curation

Five Tools That Work as a System, Not Five Things in a Box

We assembled this set with a specific principle: every piece should serve the preparation rather than padding a product listing. The chawan (bowl), the chasen (bamboo whisk), the chashaku (bamboo scoop), the chasen holder, and the fine-mesh sifter are the five tools that the preparation of ceremonial matcha actually asks for. Nothing decorative, nothing redundant. The holder matters more than people expect — resting a wet chasen on its tines destroys the shape over time; the holder lets it dry upright. The sifter earns its place the same way: matcha clumps from static and humidity, and five seconds of sifting before you whisk is the difference between a smooth bowl and chasing lumps with the whisk.

Gift-ready packaging

The Set Ships in Box Packaging Designed to Go Directly Under a Tree

The packaging for this set was designed with gifting in mind. All five tools arrive individually nested; the box opens like a presentation rather than a shipping container. We made this decision because the first thing someone does with a gift they love is look at it — and if the unboxing is an experience in itself, that reflects well on the person who sent it. The care guide and origin notes for the chasen are included in the box as a small printed card, not a URL to a help page.

Real daily use

The Set That Goes From Gift Box to Counter Fixture

The mark of a well-chosen set is that it doesn't get used once and put away. This one tends to migrate quickly from the gift box to a permanent spot on the counter near the kettle, which is where a matcha practice actually takes hold. The chasen holder does double duty as a display stand; the chawan, scoop, and sifter live within reach because the practice works best when the friction to starting it is near zero. The whole ritual — a quick sift, a scoop, a minute of whisking — takes under two minutes.

From Lisa

The Set That Represents What Strabella Is Trying to Do

When people ask me what Strabella is about in a sentence, I say it's about making space for the small rituals — the morning coffee, the evening tea, the dinner that's more than fuel. This matcha set is that idea in a box: five tools that invite you to slow down for ten minutes and make something with care. If someone you love doesn't yet have a matcha practice, this is a generous place to start. — Lisa
